... but I moved a fair number of hardcovers and once got as high as number five on the Times list... that was with my second book The Red-Shirt Man. Ironically, one of the books that kept me from going higher was Steel Machine, by Thad Beaumont (writing as George Stark). The Beaumonts had a summer place in Castle Rock back in those days, not even fifty miles south of our place on Dark Score Lake. Thad's dead now. Suicide. I don't know if it had anything to do with writer's block or not.
That is on page 26 and 27 of Bag of Bones and I don't know if a mere paragraph has ever had me wibbling so uncontrollably. D:
I think it's cause I just read The Dark Half so all the shit Thad went through was fresh in my mind and he gets a random paragraph in Mike Noonan's head about committing suicide. THAD ILU. <3 ;-;
I also love how Stephen King ties all his stuff together -- Mike Noonan thinks about Thad and has a place on Dark Score Lake (also the setting of Gerald's Game). In Lisey's Story, Lisey Landon ends up at a gas station where a guy is wearing a Dark Score Lake t-shirt and she deals with Clutterbuck and Ridgewick (helping her with asshole Jim Dooley). Clutterbuck and Ridgewick were the law men who worked under Alan Pangborn, who dealt with the whole Thad Beaumont/George Stark ordeal and is mentioned in Bag of Bones as well. AND Darla (Lisey's sister) has an audiobook of "THE NEW MIKE NOONAN NOVEL" that she's listening to. I love this shit. XD
Oh yeah, and I watched Secret Window tonight -- Jim Dooley (the asshole in Lisey's Story was born in Shooter's Knob, TN -- where Ted (Mort's ex-wife's new man, also an asshole) grew up. XD
And the fact that Timothy Hutton is in The Dark Half and Secret Window... HAHAHAHAHAH.
AND BAG OF BONE (BOB!) -- Mike Noonan is all kinds of awesome too. I stayed up reading till 4am last night. D:
I got my awesome yellow cowboy hat in the mail today. Now my Stupid Magic Kingdom Donk Kid costume is nearly complete! I just need to figure out the shoe covers. D:
