So I have been kind of out of the loop on LJ and the internet for the past couple of weeks. I had been too busy worrying about one of the kitties (my dear by the name of Thing). I haven't been able to keep up with my FL much and I haven't really made any posts on here or the board or anything cause I had been distracted. I thought she was just getting old (she was 15) and all that jazz but last week I was flipping out because we had to leave her alone for the weekend when we went to Pittsburgh and no one was in the house. She couldn't jump on things anymore and she was really skinny and since we got back from Pittsburgh I was so worried. I made a vet appointment for her last Friday and at the last minute I freaked out and started crying and couldn't go cause I knew what they were gonna say. Nate took her by himself (that boy is a life saver, I swear) and they said she was dehydrated and they were gonna do some bloodwork and we should contact them the next week (this week) to update them on her status. They let us know Saturday that it wasn't diabetes or hyperthyroidism, which is what they thought it would be.
So she had been eating only wet food, which we would sneak water into since she wasn't drinking water and hadn't been for the past few days. She seemed the same last night. She was still wandering around and she curled up in bed next to me while I was on my laptop purring super loud like she usually did.
This morning I found her in the hallway sprawled out and I knew she was on her last legs. Of course, being the basketcase I am, I freaked out and knocked down my mother's door (she just got back from vacation yesterday) and started crying and she came out and we got dressed and took her to the vet (which I really didn't think I'd be able to manage). They said putting her to sleep was the right choice because of her condition. The vet said her breathing was the kind of breathing that cats do when they're close to passing so any emergency intervening they might've done wouldn't help. So mom and I went back into the room with her and said goodbye to her and then stood there while the vet did her thing and then she left us with kitty all wrapped up in a blanket to say goodbye one more time after she passed and my god this morning has been depressing.
And of course now I keep thinking of all the silly things she did. Like when she would jump in the shower after me and drink the water, or sneak up onto my nightstand when I wasn't looking as stick her head in my water glass -- my favorite though was always how she would daintily put her paw on your arm when she wanted you to pet her.
My mom just said, "I'm gonna make some lunch." And she's probably making a can of tuna fish and I was a second away from saying, "Make sure you let Thing lick the can."
It's really weird only having one cat in the house. We haven't had only one cat in the house since like... 1994. And the little gray terror (the one cat now in the house), Maeby -- she is currently meandering around and meowing. This morning when we had Thing in the carrier (which Maeby stays away from and hisses at) Maeby actually went up to it and sniffed it and poked at with her nose. Sure, she tormented Thing sometimes, but other times they cuddled and it was adorable.
So yeah. I would like to think she is in Kitty Heaven now playing with her boyfriend Evil (who was my sister's cat who also passed away this year) and they're both tormenting Big Kitty, who was our oldest cat (she passed at 20 years old in 2008) and who used to tolerate Evil and Thing and politely refrained from paw-slapping them in their faces when they got near her.

THING! (her real name was Thumbs, but we always called her Thing) / 1995 - 2010
So there she is being cute, then on the top right is her and her man, Evil. I think he saw something he wanted and was in the middle of turning over -- he has that DO WANT look on his face. And Thing has her tongue out, heeee. Then below that is her being darling again and the the bottom left is her and Maeby chilling. Thing was such a sweet cat. She was a goofball sometimes but she never ever got mean or hissed at you or anything. I will miss her and the warm cuddliness she brought everywhere.
