tenel_kaSo we got our bonus checks at work the other week and I had set aside a little bit of it for myself while the rest went towards cat surgery. I ended up buying Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core for my PSP with the money yesterday and last night I snuggled into bed and turned it on to play.
Now, when I played FF7: Dirge of Cerberus (omg the music <3), I knew I was playing a FF7 spinoff. I liked it cause it was all Vincent Valentine (and Lucrecia, etc.) and he was always one of my favorites, but it really didn't have the same feel to it (obviously). I wasn't expecting OMG AWESOME when I turned this one on just for that reason -- I expected it to feel too far removed. But dude, when it started and Zack (Mister Zack Fair, who is already ten times cooler than Cloud cause he's not an emo bitch -- I liked him better in the FF7 flashbacks too) was like, "LOL LOOK AT ME IN MIDGAR RUNNING ON THE TRAIN I AM SUCH A SNARKY, COCKY BITCH!!11" -- with a pretty much untouched version of "Opening ~ Bombing Mission" (from the original FF7 OST) playing in the background I ABOUT DIED. Midgar and Shinra were two of my absolute favorite things in FF7 and to be back right in the heart of all their bullshittery made me such a happy little fangirl. Also, the fact that Zack hops off of a train in the same sort of fashion as Cloud at the start of FF7 = YES.
I think DoC just didn't do it for me as much because it was so removed from the original game. Not that I want a rehash of FF7, but if you're gonna revisit the characters or tell me their stories and stuff, give me all the stuff I loved about it before. GIVE ME MIDGAR. GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEE. And again, Zack is so slick compared to Cloud -- he walks in to talk to Angeal and Lazard and Lazard wants to shake his hand. Cloud would've looked at it like, "whatevah, i'm too good for this." While Zack was like, "OH HAY!! SO GOOD TO MEET YOU~!!11 *SHAKESHAKESHAKE!*" And then Angeal tells him he's probably promoted and Zack tackles and bear hugs him.
CLOUD: 0, ZACK: 1.
Also, hopefully we'll get the story behind Zack/Aeris so this decade long Cloud/Aeris bullshit CAN STOP. ZACK/AERIS. CLOUD/TIFA. THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD WORKS. And definitely NOT Vincent/Aeris or Sephiroth/Aeris, THANK YOU. Vincent/Lucrecia & Sephiroth/himself. (And that was my decade old FF& shipper rant waiting to get out of my system.)

Damn, I can fangirl ramble about this game forever. O_O I think it's because FF7 was my gateway game to video gaming in general (besides old computer games, but I'm not sure those are in the same category) -- along with RPGs and such. So to be able to revisit that crackwhoretastical world and the characters is like turning me into a 13-year-old fangirl again. As opposed to the 23-year-old fangirl I am now. D:
(MAYBE THIS GAME WILL MAKE ME LIKE AERIS. IS THAT POSSIBLE?)
I am also trying to decide if I would be this amused about revisiting other FF games. I could go with some more FF8, just because Zell Dincht is the greatest thing in the history of ever especially when he chokes on hot dogs like a bitch. And FF9, just because 9 was amazing in itself -- although, that one closed up pretty nicely and explained lots of crap. Except for why Kuja liked banana hammocks. STFU, he was still hot. And really feminine. But still hot.
